Music Magazine Evaluation

·         In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? 

My magazine uses similar features to music magazines. I have used main headlines and placed them in similar places. I have also used a large header which the magazine has also done.  The house style for the text is also similar to the music magazine, I have used the same red text writing on a black background.                     

I have challenged the conventions of the music magazine by having a mid-shot but have placed in in the middle of the page and made It smaller whereas the music magazine has a mid-shot but is bigger on the page.

•          How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine represents L15 students because of its topics and genres. The pictures relate to the genre. The fact that my magazine is cheap and weekly allows students to purchase the magazine on a regular basis. The colours of the magazine and house style work effectively with the genre and topics of the magazine. My magazine appeals to students as I have made the bands young to coincide with my audience’s age.

·         What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

There are various magazine distributors that distribute different genre of magazine but the distributor that I would choose is Bauer Media Group, I have chosen Bauer Media Group as they distribute Kerrang magazine which is a leading rock magazine and is a similar genre to my magazine.

·         Who would be the audience for your media product?

My audience would be students who enjoy classic rock or other rock alternatives. I have made this present in my magazine with my images and colours that I have used.

·         How did you attract/address your audience

I attract my audience with young bands and colours that suit both the genre and the target audience. My articles are short and factual which provide the reader with a short yet detailed explanation, review or interview with a band.

·   What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? 

I have learnt how to effectively use Photoshop and blogger to an extent where I can use them to create and design a music magazine. I have used tools such as the lasso tool to edit pictures and the shape tool to create the structure of the magazine.

·   Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I further understand how to effectively use Photoshop to create a music magazine and to add features such as a strapline and plugs. I feel that my skills have developed to create a more detailed and effective magazine
